Raising a Flag for Gender Equality

With the adoption of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) right around the corner, now is the time for individuals and countries to come together to support and elevate the SDGs. Women Deliver is so excited that Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess Mark of Denmark is leading the charge in making the SDGs known to the world.

On September 1st 2015, the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark participated in the Women Deliver inspiration meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Copenhagen to hoist a flag for Goal 5 of the SDGs which is to, achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This is to be the first of 17 flags being raised around the world to show support for the goals. Over the years, the Crown Princess of Denmark has shown strong engagement in the world, particularly around the topic of gender equality, and women’s empowerment. Thus, it was a great honor to have her participate alongside 150 others in the Women Deliver inspiration meeting.

The focus of the meeting was the health, rights, and well-being of girls and women around the world. This meeting was also an opportunity to highlight that in May 2016 Women Deliver’s fourth Global Conference will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark. HRH the Crown Princess has been named protector of Women Deliver’s fourth Global Conference, which will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark in May 2016. This moment was just the beginning of the mobilization of the Danish population for their fight for Goal 5 of the SDGs.
