Julie Bernstein
Julie Bernstein is the Deputy Director for Program Advocacy and Communications within Global Policy and Advocacy at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, responsible for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Integrated Delivery. Julie has nearly 20 years of experience leading advocacy and communications at non-profits and foundations that focus on social justice and women’s health.
Prior to joining the foundation, Julie was Director of Policy Communications at CARE, where she led CARE’s communications efforts across several priority issues including maternal health and food security. Before CARE, Julie was Director of Global Programs and Senior Media Advisor at Susan G. Komen for the Cure where she was instrumental in expanding Komen’s global presence through educational programs and communications campaigns. Julie also served as Communications Director at Alliance for Justice, a national association of more than 100 organizations dedicated to advancing justice and democracy.
Julie served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Papua New Guinea. Julie holds a BA in Journalism from University of Wisconsin-Madison. She lives in Seattle with her husband and twin sons.
