Dr. Katherine Semrau is a global health epidemiologist who has devoted her 15-year career to improving maternal and neonatal health in resource-limited settings. At Ariadne Labs, she leads the research and execution of the BetterBirth Program, a simple, scalable intervention designed to encourage the use of known life-saving practices during childbirth. BetterBirth is a randomized control trial involving 116,000 childbirths and 120 health facilities in Uttar Pradesh, India. In addition, Dr. Semrau has a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School and is an Associate Epidemiologist in the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Semrau has a PhD in epidemiology from Boston University and an MPH in international health and epidemiology from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
