Dr. Nozer Sheriar is an obstetrician and gynecologist with a longstanding commitment to the advocacy and promotion of women’s rights and access to safe abortion. He is presently a member of the governing boards of  the Guttmacher Institute and previously served on the boards of Ipas and IPPF. He is the Scientific Chair of the XXII FIGO World Conference In Rio de Janero and a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the South East Asia Region of WHO. He is the Past Secretary General of the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecological Societies of India and the Past President of the Mumbai Obstetric and Gynecological Society. As Past Chairperson of the MTP Committee, FOGSI and member of the Technical Advisory Panel, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, he participated in the amendment of the MTP Act and the development of the national comprehensive abortion care guidelines, conducted nationwide workshops and created training videos on MVA and medical abortion. He was the coordinator and principal investigator in the GOI WHO MVA Pilot Project, the FOGSI Population Council study on use of medical abortion, the FOGSI Ipas Multicentric Trial of MVA and the CELECT study on contraceptive choice.
