“Shanti” was raised in a village in the remote, rural Solukhumbu district of Nepal with very little opportunity for income generation. In 2003, she left and became a trekking guide at 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking. On a daily basis, she leads international clients on multi-day treks in the Himalaya. Shanti has climbed several peaks over 6000 meters in Nepal. In 2011, Shanti and her three female teammates were the first Nepal women to successfully climb Annapurna IV (7525 meters). She has done the Thorong La (5416 meters) pass – the highest peak on the popular Annapurna Circuit – 39 times. In addition to guiding clients in the world’s tallest mountains, Shanti trains young Nepali women to literally follow in her footsteps and become trekking guides.
